Forum etiquette and best practices

Posting & Account Rules

  • • Keep bad language to a minimum and respect other users (and developers) on this forum.
  • • Do not post any: spam or advertising, or abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening or sexually-oriented material!
  • • Avoid discussing topics of dubious legality - RMS is a member of FAST
  • • Avoid excessive use of the caps lock.
  • • The language used on the board is English.
  • • Multiple registrations are prohibited and are grounds for immediate account deletion.
  • • Support Questions posted in these forums will be deleted. These are not Support forums.

Policing

  • • A three strikes policy is used on all forums. Users will be warned a maximum of three times for any and all offenses. If you receive a fourth warning, your account will be banned.
  • • In cases where spamming, abusive posts, Multiple Registrations, or piracy are concerned, your account will be instantly banned without notice!

Do

  • • Do respect others
  • • Do share what you know
  • • Do be kind to newbies — we were all new once
  • • Do encourage others; recognize and praise good work
  • • Do attract and honor good, knowledgeable people
  • • Do ask for help, and help others in return
  • • Do set a good example
  • • Do visit the Forum FAQ

If you are warned and wish to discuss the matter, please be polite when contacting moderators and admins. You're far more likely to get a good response if you do. If you see a post that violates any of these rules, please let us know.

Don't:

  • • Don't infringe on copyrighted material
  • • Don't Use obscene or offensive language
  • • Don't Personally attack people, their edits (including spelling or grammar), or their comments
  • • Don't Rant or otherwise harass, abuse, or intimidate others
  • • Don't Use multiple accounts to agree (or argue) with yourself
  • • Don't Post anything you don't want the world to see. This is a public space
  • • Don't Post content that violates the guidelines
  • • Don't Post other people's confidential or private information without their express permission. This includes email addresses, street addresses, telephone numbers, content of private forum messages, etc.
  • - Don't Be afraid to identify errors or shortcomings. Your feedback is important!

Personal insults, verbal attacks, and generally offensive, disrespectful, or abusive messages will be edited or deleted by forum Admins. Spam messages will be deleted immediately, and the user account will be deleted.
