All systems, regardless of type or discipline, experience events happening that invariably need some action taken in response. This action may be to send a simple information message, run a confidence test or initiate a more complex recovery process. By continuously monitoring all events generated by the monitored systems, RMS Enterprise Manager can identify ‘interesting events'. An interesting event is defined as one having an impact (potential or real) on the Service performance. These events are ‘matched' against a user-defined policy to determine the exact action(s) to be taken. Actions can be taken against a single event, a collection of events from different systems or a combination of events against a given time.
Actions are defined by ‘Extension' modules that are loaded on demand. Enterprise Manager is supplied with standard extensions that can be used or enhanced and new extensions can be added to provide specific actions, for example:
Modules can be written and added to perform almost any kind of action or to provide integration into other systems.
RMS Enterprise Manager's powerful event correlation, analysis and ‘real-time' operation allows pre-emptive and pro-active actions to be invoked automatically to maintain service availability.
