RMS Services ITIL Availability Management
The goal of the Availability Management Process is to ensure that the level of service availability delivered is all services is matched to or exceeds the current and future needs of the business, in a cost effective manner. The purpose of Availability Management is to provide a point of focus and management for all availability related issues, relating to both services and resources ensuring that availability targets in all areas are measured and achieved.
The objectives of Availability Management are to:
- Product and maintain an up to date Availability Plan that reflects the current and future needs of the business
- Provide advice and guidance on all other areas of the business and IT on all availability related issues
- Ensure that service availability achievements meet or exceed all their agreed targets by managing services and resource-related availability performance
- Assist with the diagnosis and resolution of availability-related incidents and problems
- Assess the impact of all changes on the Availability Plan and the performance and capacity of all services and resources
- Ensure that proactive measures to improve the availability of services are implemented wherever it is cost-justifiable to do so
The RMS solution supports Availability Management by:
- The Availability Plan for each service can be stored as a document against the business service record within the Service Catalogue
- The target availability for the business service can be entered against the service, along with the rule for calculation i.e. month by month, or rolling window or variation thereof against a defined calendar of working hours
- Real time calculated statistics on service availability so the impact of outages can be seen
- Future availability statistics calculated, based on planned outages so that the impact of planned work can be seen
- Monitoring of servers and network devices with automated recovery actions to minimise downtime
- Quickly logging events to reduce the time taken to notify support of outages to speed resolution
- Policy based event correlation and root cause analysis to help pinpoint the cause of an outage
- Management reporting to highlight the most frequent causes of outage to help minimise occurrences
