RMS Services ITIL Service Asset & Configuration Management

The purpose of SACM is to:

  • Identify, control, record, report, audit and verify service assets and configuration items, including versions, baselines, constituent components, their attributes and relationships
  • Account for, manage and protect the integrity of service assets and configuration items through the service lifecycle by ensuring that only authorised components are used and only authorised changes are made
  • Protect the integrity of service assets and configuration items through the service lifecycle
  • Ensure the integrity of the assets and configurations required to control the services and IT infrastructure by establishing and maintaining an accurate and complete CMS

The goals of Configuration Management are to:

  • Support the business and customer’s control objectives and requirements
  • Support efficient and effective Service Management processes by providing accurate configuration information to enable people to make decisions at the right time
  • Minimise the number of quality and compliance issues caused by improper configuration of services and assets
  • Optimise the service assets, IT configuration capabilities and resources

The objective is to define and control the components of services and infrastructure and maintain accurate configuration information on the historical planned and current state of the services and infrastructure.

The RMS solution achieves this by:

  • Providing a comprehensive CMS for storing the required information for Service Assets and CIs with their financial and contractual details
  • Full auditing of changes to asset information
  • Providing interfaces to update IT device details from automated collectors such as MS SCCM and to view relevant details from other databases
  • Provide workflow controls for the full asset lifecycle from procurement through to disposal
  • Provide access and update constraints on asset details for users based on their role
  • A fully integrated solution providing easy and pertinent access to configuration details from other processes such as Incident, Problem and Change Management
  • Provide a repository for the Electronic CIs as part of the DML
  • Document the Configuration Management Plan to the organisation through the Content Management System aspect of the web portal
  • Defining relationships through a bill of materials structure in the CMS to break CIs into their components as well as defining connections and usage
  • Full Licence Management to ensure compliance
