Automatic action taken to maintain Service availability

Pre-emptive operation - to invoke a standard action to prevent something happening.

Actions can initiated based on thresholds being threatened, events being seen repeatedly or simply based on a time parameter expiring.

For example:

Pro-active operation – to take action by making an authorised change rather than waiting to react when something happens

Actions can be initiated based on event correlation and matching against the policy rules base which defines the action based on experience of supporting and managing the component. The change can be temporary or permanent which will require the updating of the Configuration Item (CI) in the CMDB
