The RMS Enterprise Manager policy is the basis on which all event correlation, decisions and actions are taken. The policy is a set of rules held in a database against which an event is matched as part of the correlation process. When a match is found, the action specified in the Rules database is invoked.
The rules are user defined to reflect the actions required to react to the event being processed. For example, where there is a documented process to be followed to overcome a particular event that can be automated, then Enterprise Manager can invoke the process automatically.
Rules are created using a GUI rules builder that offers templates and prompting to aid input and syntax and argument validation to ensure integrity of the rule.

Rules are held in text format for ease of editing but are compiled for running to improve performance. Multiple policies can be created and maintained but Enterprise Manager will use the policy currently defined in its configuration file.
